Candypants
This story was a fluke. I was trying to think of the most unlikely subject I could pitch to KCRW's food show, and I found a brief Wikipedia entry on edible underwear that sounded intriguing. With the blessing of Good Food's producer and host (love them!), I tracked down Lee Brady and David Sanderson, the adventuresome couple who created, trademarked, and made a fortune from a product called Candypants in the mid-'70s. Their story turned out to be so much stranger and more unbelievable than I imagined -- and yet it's all true. At least, I think it is.
How far out is this story? Disco, Tokyo Rose, and a suitcase stuffed with cash are just a few of the highlights.
