The Couple in 303
In 2011, the FBI arrested Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger in Santa Monica. He'd been living there quietly for 15 years -- right across the street from me. In our neighborhood, Bulger and his girlfriend Catherine Greig were known as Charlie and Carol Gasko, a retired couple who often took walks in the evening. After the arrests, I asked people on my block about the Gaskos. It turns out the most wanted man in America was a pretty good neighbor.
